Web User Interface Developer

Location - Guelph

Job Description

Primary responsibility is to create modern user interface design concepts and prototypes for web applications with a focus on providing superior user experiences and interactions utilizing current and upcoming technologies and implementing designs by writing programming code.

Duties, Responsibilities, & Expectations

Design

· Build story boards, proof-of-concept mockups, and rapid prototypes of user interface designs.
·
Conduct usability testing.
·
Keep current with web-based user interface development best practices, trends and technologies (even trends in non-web user interfaces such as mobile), and communicate to others a solid understanding of User Interface design best practices.
·
Work with management to help document User Interface design standards, policies, and procedures.

Development

· Writing User Interface-related programming code that complies with company standards.
·
Write unit tests.
·
Ensure technical skills are kept current and up-to-date.

General

· Any other administrative or technical tasks as requested.
·
Track and input the time spent on each assigned task.

Qualifications

· Mandatory two year diploma or four year degree in Computer Programming/Computer Science/Computer Information Systems (CIS) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
·
Mandatory one year certificate or better in Visual Arts and Graphic Design from a recognized post-secondary institution.
·
Minimum two years of current experience as a Web User Interface Developer demonstrating both a programming and graphic design component.
·
Expert level with regards web standards and technologies including: CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Json, XML, and JQuery.
·
Some experience with the newer HTML5 and CSS3 technologies.
·
Experience with Microsoft Visio and Adobe Illustrator.
·
Proven graphic design experience (i.e. digital portfolio).
·
Excellent communication skills in English in writing, verbally, and as a presenter.
·
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering highly-polished web-based User Interfaces.
·
Experience with Object Oriented Design concepts.
·
Experience writing unit tests.
·
Problem solving/Troubleshooting skills
·
Strong multi-tasking and time management/priority setting skills.
·
Ability to follow a schedule.
·
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
·
Fast learner/quick study with technology and applications.
·
Highly creative, self-starter, motivated, independent thinker.
·
Ability to self-manage as well as work and collaborate with cross-functional groups.
